Itinerary

Royal Zambezi Lodge was designed by people with a deep interest in Africa, its heritage and its wildlife. Our vision incorporates a need to let people from throughout the world enjoy the best that Africa has to offer without compromising comfort and well being.

Our property extends over 200 hectares of the Chiawa Game Management Area on the northern bank of the Zambezi River with its own 3.5 kms of unspoiled river frontage and the scenic mountain backdrop of the valley escarpment. Royal is directly opposite the World Heritage Site, Mana Pools in Zimbabwe and minutes from the Lower Zambezi National Park.

As the setting of the lodge is so special and unique we have kept the lodge in keeping with the bush while still providing you 5 Star accommodation. The lodge finds the perfect balance between contemporary, simplistic style and extreme comfort offering a completely unspoiled wilderness experience.

With lions roaring in the distance and hippos snorting nearby, the luxurious thatched suites, elegant design and gourmet cuisine of Royal Zambezi Lodge provide a perfect base from which to explore this wild and beautiful area. There are no fences around the lodge and we have regular guests including elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion, leopard and many types of birds coming to visit. We also have a few residents who I am sure you will meet – like Yale the elephant, Dave the crocodile and Jonathan the giant kingfisher!

GETTING THERE

There are many options for getting to the Royal Zambezi Lodge, as soon as we have been advised of your itinerary we can help you book your transport to and from the lodge.

  • By Air

Royal Zambezi Lodge has its own 1.7km tarred airstrip just a 5 minute drive fromthe lodge, the Royal Airstrip, and its own airline, Royal Air Charters – so most guests prefer to fly to the lodge and our guides will then collect you and drive you to the lodge.

From Lusaka – we can either organise a customised charter flight for you with our airline, Royal Air Charters, or we can book you on a scheduled flight in a light aircraft. Flights take approximately 30 minutes from Lusaka.
From Livingstone – If you are coming to us from the Victoria Falls, you can opt for a direct, private charter from Livingstone to the Royal Airstrip, which will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The other option is to fly to Lusaka to connect with a scheduled flight.
From Mfuwe – If you are joining us from Mfuwe we can organise a charter flight from Mfuwe airport to the Royal Airstrip, it will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
From other destinations – just give us a shout and we can assist and book any transfer you may require to the lodge and other places in Zambia or Southern Africa. We can even organise a helicopter transfer if required.

  • By boat

Arriving by boat is a great way to start your stay at The Royal Zambezi Lodge. We regularly organise to pick up guests from Gwabi lodge on the Kafue River and can organise transfers from other camps and other destinations to meet your requirements.

  • By road

If you are planning to drive to the lodge we strongly recommend a 4×4 vehicle as the last 70km of road is extremely rough in places. Another alternative is to drive to Gwabi lodge on the Kafue River and we can organise a boat transfer for the last 40km of the journey. A great way to start your stay at the lodge.
